Kwara Secures Landmark Approval for Graduate Nurse Internship
Kwara State has achieved a historic milestone as the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) grants approval for the training of graduate intern-nurses, marking a new era in the state’s healthcare development.
The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, announced the approval during a management meeting, revealing that Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, and General Hospital, Offa, have been designated as the pioneer training centers for the program.
Describing the development as a major breakthrough, Malik emphasized that the initiative would not only enhance nursing practice but also provide hands-on clinical training for graduate nurses, improve healthcare delivery, and create employment opportunities. He credited Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s unwavering investment in the health sector for making this achievement possible.
He assured that the state would uphold the high standards that earned it the approval, stressing that Kwara was committed to sustaining the progress made in healthcare services. He also noted that the state had recently secured a similar approval from the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) to train graduate pharmacist interns and was working towards accreditation for the training of Medical Laboratory Scientists.
The Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Oyewole Risikat, urged prospective graduate nurses to seize the opportunity, highlighting the state’s investment in healthcare training to ensure they can compete globally.
Also speaking, the Director of Medical Services and Training, Dr. Femi Joseph, praised the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system, describing the approval as a game-changer that would further position Kwara as a leader in medical training and service delivery.
