In a move to reassure students and their families, the Kwara State Government has affirmed that robust security arrangements have been put in place ahead of the resumption of academic activities at the Ilesha Baruba campus of the Kwara State University (KWASU).
This commitment was made during an on-site visit by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, who led a government delegation to assess campus preparedness and engage with local stakeholders.
Speaking during the tour, Hajia Kawu emphasized that the welfare and safety of students remain the government’s top priority. “We understand the anxiety surrounding recent security challenges, but I want to assure all stakeholders—especially parents and students—that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration is fully committed to securing the learning environment,” she said.
The commissioner expressed satisfaction with the state of infrastructure on campus and praised the Governor’s sustained investment in the institution. She was accompanied by the Governor’s Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Hon. Salami Wasiu Onidugbe; KWASU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shaykh Lukman Jimoh; and other top officials.
The team also paid a courtesy call to the Emir of Ilesha Baruba, His Royal Highness Prof. Haliru Idris Abubakar. At the palace, Hajia Kawu reiterated the government’s resolve to support the university and strengthen ties with the host community.
“We’re not just focused on buildings and books; we’re equally committed to creating an environment where students and staff feel safe and supported,” she said.
In response, the Emir welcomed the delegation warmly and commended the government’s proactive approach. “We appreciate the steps taken to strengthen security in our community,” he said. “I can assure you that we are ready to continue playing host to KWASU and foster a peaceful academic atmosphere.”
KWASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jimoh, disclosed that the Faculty of Agriculture, which is located on the Ilesha Baruba campus, is now fully ready to welcome students for the upcoming session. He confirmed that initial delays caused by security concerns have been addressed.
The delegation concluded its visit with an inspection of key facilities, including lecture halls, laboratories, and student accommodation. According to officials, the infrastructure meets all necessary standards, signaling the campus’s readiness for a smooth resumption.
