The Kwara State Government successfully concluded the final day of its three-day capacity-building training for community-based organisations (CBOs) on Saturday. The event, held at the Banquet Hall in Ilorin, saw active participation from CBOs from local government areas in Kwara Central.
Organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara Governor on Community Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the summit was initiated by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Dr. Olohungbebe informed participants that community development initiatives are crucial in addressing the needs of the populace and promoting sustainable growth. He emphasized the importance of grassroots involvement in public projects to ensure inclusive development.
Saturday’s session also featured an intensive interactive segment, allowing participants to express their thoughts and concerns openly. This platform enabled them to voice their opinions on various community issues and development strategies. Dr. Olohungbebe highlighted that community development is essential in helping those in need and driving overall development.
Participants praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing such an opportunity, highlighting the significance of having a platform to share their views and contribute to the state’s development agenda. They expressed gratitude for the initiative, which they believe will enhance community engagement and drive positive change at the grassroots level.
Dr. Olohungbebe announced that the government would award grants and certificates of merit to outstanding communities based on evaluations by an independent panel in the coming weeks.
“The next step after the training is the submission of their projects for review. Outstanding organisations will receive grants to fund either existing or new projects in their communities. We aim to select at least three CBOs from each senatorial district,” Dr. Olohungbebe stated.
He added that Governor AbdulRazaq is a community-focused leader dedicated to working closely with the people to deliver the benefits of democracy across all areas of governance.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Abdur-Rahman Akindele Ayuba, representative of the Citizens Assembly and Executive Director of the Centre for Community Empowerment and Poverty Eradication, lauded the government for the initiative. He called for ongoing collaboration with CBOs to ensure inclusive governance and sustainable development in the state.
