Ibraheem Abdullateef, Senior Special Assistant on Communications to the Kwara State Governor, has alleged that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is financially strained and that its candidates may misuse local government funds for political purposes if elected.
In an opinion article released on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Abdullateef outlined five key reasons why he believes the people of Kwara will reject the PDP in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for September 21.
Abdullateef cautioned residents to be wary of the PDP, labeling it as a party with a history of financial mismanagement. He disputed claims that PDP candidates would handle local government resources more responsibly, pointing to past instances of misappropriation.
“In contrast, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates are seen as more reliable and capable. Over the past five years, there has been no evidence of missing LG funds in Kwara. The PDP, however, has a record of untrustworthiness when it comes to public funds,” Abdullateef stated.
He recalled the 2019 suspension of 16 elected PDP local government chairmen by the Kwara State House of Assembly for alleged financial mismanagement, as well as the diversion of UBEC funds during the PDP’s tenure, which had a detrimental impact on the state’s education sector.
“The people of Kwara must be cautious of individuals who view LG funds as a lifeline to revive their struggling party,” he concluded.
