The Kwara State Government has taken the initiative to collaborate with community-based organizations (CBOs) in a joint effort to drive sustainable development at the grassroots level.
As part of the initiative, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, is organizing a week long summit and capacity development training for CBOs across the state.
The initiative, themed “Self-help: A sustainable communal development approach,” will hold in each of the state’s three senatorial districts between August 20 and 24.
According to Olohungbebe, the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is committed to deepening collaboration with various stakeholders in community development, particularly community-based organizations.The initiative seeks to provide capacity building for the leadership of CBOs, enabling them to become more active players in the state’s development process.
The summit will provide a platform for various CBOs to share and review their unique experiences and community efforts with other key players, including community development experts, representatives from the government and development agencies.
In addition, awards and matching grants will be presented to outstanding development associations in thematic areas such as education, ICT, health, empowerment, and Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH).
The Kwara State Government’s recognition of the critical role played by development associations in community development is a positive step towards inclusive and sustainable development across the state.
