The Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS) processed 354 land confirmation requests and 247 Certificates of Occupancy in the first quarter of 2025, marking a major step in the state’s transition to a fully automated land administration system.
The Executive Chairman of KWGIS, ESV. Abdulkareem Babatunde Sulyman, revealed this at the first quarter inter-ministerial press briefing organized by the Ministry of Communications in Ilorin. He credited the milestone to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s digital reforms aimed at aligning development with the state’s master plan.
The Chairman explained that the “Charting for Confirmation Papers” processed allow applicants to verify land details—such as location, size, and survey validity—before advancing to occupancy certification.
In addition to the Certificates of Occupancy awaiting gubernatorial approval, the agency also processed 238 survey reports for statutory rights of occupancy and approved 12 out of 16 land registration certificate applications.
ESV. Sulyman also announced significant land acquisitions by the state: over 1,000 hectares earmarked for an agricultural project in Budo-Alfa, Moro Local Government, and 2,000 hectares for an industrial park along the old Ogbomosho road, with over N500 million already disbursed. Assessment for another parcel at Oke-Oyi is also underway for the proposed smart city initiative.
According to him, these reforms are not only accelerating service delivery but also strengthening the state’s internally generated revenue base.
