Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has officially launched Project Ten Million, an initiative aimed at screening 196,913 residents for hypertension and diabetes, addressing a critical health need within the state. The week-long campaign, which began on October 27 and runs until November 3, 2024, seeks to raise health awareness, offer free screenings, and provide guidance on managing these conditions.
In a message delivered by Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi at the State Banquet Hall, Governor AbdulRazaq stressed the significance of tackling hypertension and diabetes, two of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases worldwide. He highlighted that the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to health as a basic right for all Kwarans.
The First Lady, Amb. Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, urged residents to take proactive steps toward their well-being, noting the importance of early detection in preventing severe health complications. Dr. Amina El-Imam, the state’s Health Commissioner, shared that Project Ten Million is part of a national initiative endorsed by the Nigeria Health Commissioners’ Forum and supported by development partners, aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians across the country.
State Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu Danladi, represented by Hon. Abdulkareem Musa, expressed strong support for the initiative, assuring that lawmakers will encourage participation across their constituencies.
