Urges Parents and Stakeholders to Support Program
In response to the presence of circulating variant poliovirus detected in human and environmental samples across multiple states, the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA) is launching a new round of the Polio Immunization Campaign. Running from Saturday, November 2, to Tuesday, November 5, the campaign will reach all communities across Kwara’s 16 local government areas, focusing on boosting immunity among vulnerable children.
Dr. Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of KWSPHCDA, shared this update during a recent engagement with Ward Development Committee chairpersons in Ilorin. Dr. Elelu highlighted that this campaign targets children under five, aiming to safeguard them from poliomyelitis, an incurable disease that leads to paralysis.
During the campaign, health workers will visit homes, markets, religious centers, schools, and public gathering spots to administer two drops of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to every eligible child, regardless of prior immunization status. Dr. Elelu called on mothers, caregivers, religious leaders, and traditional authorities to cooperate fully with health workers during this period, emphasizing that the vaccine is free, safe, and without risk of overdose.
