The Lagos State Police Command has debunked reports of increased kidnapping along Gbagada Expressway, labeling them as fake and recycled falsehoods.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified in a statement on Friday that the viral security advisory did not originate from the command. According to him, the same false claim surfaced in January 2024, reappeared in September 2024, and has now resurfaced in March 2025.
“Despite this misinformation, the command remains attentive to security concerns in the area,” Hundeyin stated. He added that Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered an immediate review and strengthening of security measures along Gbagada Expressway and surrounding areas.
Lagos residents have been urged to disregard the false reports and continue their daily activities without fear. However, the police advise everyone to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities via the command’s emergency lines.
Meanwhile, detectives have been assigned to track down those responsible for spreading the false information, with orders to apprehend and prosecute them for inciting public fear.
The police have also issued a stern warning against spreading fake news, stating that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
