The Lagos State Government has issued contravention notices to over 280 illegal property owners and occupiers in the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme, in a bid to protect the state’s coastal areas and prevent slum proliferation.
Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Ekundayo Alebiosu, announced that the affected property owners have seven days to provide necessary documentation and approvals or face demolition notices.
“The Lagos State Government will no longer tolerate illegal activities along waterfront schemes and corridors,” Alebiosu warned.
The move follows a thorough technical assessment by the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, which revealed widespread violations of government regulations.
Alebiosu emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the Lagos State Master Plan, ensuring safety and sustainability along coastal areas.
“This action will serve as a deterrent to future illegal activities and contribute to the overall development and sustainability of Lagos State,” he added.
The government’s efforts to address encroachment issues also extend to the Okun Ajah waterfront scheme, where similar contravention notices have been served.
With this crackdown, the Lagos State Government reaffirms its commitment to protecting its waterfront schemes, infrastructure, and coastal environment.
