A late-night fire outbreak at Masaka Market in Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, has left traders counting massive losses after flames engulfed a significant portion of the market on Friday night.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the fire began around 10 PM, leaving devastation in its wake. At the time of reporting, no fire service officials were present to contain the blaze, and parts of the market were still burning.
This incident is reminiscent of the 2019 fire that similarly affected the market.
Amid the ruins, traders expressed their heartbreak over the destruction of their goods, while scavengers combed through the remains searching for valuables.
The affected traders are appealing to the government for urgent support to help rebuild their businesses and prevent future occurrences.
