Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has assured justice for the families of the 16 hunters brutally murdered in Uromi, Edo State. During a visit to Bunkure Local Council in Kano State, he met with the grieving families and announced a ₦1 million compensation for each bereaved household.
Barau revealed that security operatives had arrested two more suspects in addition to the 14 previously apprehended. He also pledged to push for a Senate motion on the matter once the National Assembly resumes later this month.
Meanwhile, the Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has issued a stern warning against retaliation, cautioning that the tragic event should not be exploited to incite unrest in Northern Nigeria. In a statement, MBF spokesman Luka Binniyat condemned inflammatory statements and urged restraint, emphasizing that the victims were traveling hunters falsely accused of being kidnappers.
With tensions rising, the country watches closely—will justice be served, or will vengeance take over?
