Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, has denied reports claiming he directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to stop operating its refineries and focus solely on equity participation in other refineries.
In response to reports quoting Engr. Kamoru Busari, Director of Upstream at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, during an event in Lagos, the Minister clarified that such a statement does not represent his position or that of the Federal Government.
Lokpobiri emphasized that NNPCL operates independently under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), with its own board and management. He reiterated the government’s dedication to promoting in-country refining and supporting NNPCL’s growth, ensuring its operations align with global standards of efficiency, transparency, and profitability.
