Netflix has once again adjusted its subscription fees in Nigeria, marking the first price change of 2025 and the third since 2024. The new pricing reflects significant increases across all subscription plans, with the Premium Plan now priced at ₦8,500 per month. This represents a 21.43 percent increase from the previous rate of ₦7,000.
Other subscription tiers have also been affected. The Standard Plan now costs ₦6,500, up from ₦5,500, reflecting an 18.18 percent increase. The Basic Plan has risen to ₦4,000 from its previous price of ₦3,500, while the Mobile Plan moved from ₦2,200 to ₦2,500, marking increases of 14.29 percent and 13.64 percent respectively.
Netflix explained that the changes are part of its global pricing policy, which aims to balance investments in high-quality content with the cost of operations. In a previous update to investors, the company stated:
“As we invest in and improve Netflix, we’ll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect those improvements. Which in turn helps drive the positive flywheel of additional investment to further improve and grow our service.”
Although the latest announcement does not explicitly mention inflation, the company’s website notes that local economic conditions, including tax changes and inflation, play a role in pricing decisions.
This adjustment comes amid a wave of similar increases by other digital and entertainment service providers in Nigeria. Companies such as Google, Microsoft, DStv, and GOtv have all raised subscription rates in response to sustained inflation and the weakening of the naira.
Many Nigerian subscribers have expressed concern over the growing costs of digital services, especially as household budgets continue to face pressure from rising living expenses.
