The Kwara State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) ushered in a new era of leadership with the inauguration of its newly elected executives at the NUJ Hall, GRA, Ilorin.
The event was anchored by Comrade Ilias Kamaldeen, a former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to a past NANS Kwara Chairman.
In his welcome address, Comrade Ibrahim Razak Jeje, founder of ZETSI Africa, reflected on the rich history of NANS, highlighting its achievements, challenges, and the road ahead for the student movement. His remarks set the tone for a day filled with reflection, motivation, and optimism.
Delivering the keynote speech, Mr. Lanre, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara Chapter, emphasized the importance of unity, responsible leadership, and innovation among student leaders. He urged the new executives to place student welfare at the core of their agenda.
Mr. Waheed Onikanhun, Registrar of Ahmad Pategi University, presented a thought-provoking lecture on the critical role of student leaders in academic, community, and political spheres. He encouraged the new team to be proactive, accountable, and responsive to their constituents.
Also delivering a goodwill message was Comrade Salami Wasiu Onidugbè, Special Assistant on Student Affairs to the Kwara State Governor, who called on the new leadership to uphold the legacy of their predecessors and champion student interests.
Former NANS Kwara Chairman, Comrade Saleeman Yusuf Issah, ACA, AAT, stressed the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence within the student community. He appreciated the continued support of stakeholders and promised to remain a mentor to the new team.
The inauguration was witnessed by a host of dignitaries, including Students’ Union Government (SUG) Presidents from institutions such as the Kwara State College of Education (Ilorin and Oro campuses) and the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa.
Other notable attendees included Comrades Zakariyah Ismail (Tsmile), Super, Dolapo, Salaudeen Afeez (former Secretary, NANS Zone C), the National President of IESU, and popular actor Finest Adigun.
The official swearing-in of the new executive team was conducted by Barr. Ibrahim Moshood Esq in a solemn ceremony.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated NANS Kwara Chairman, Comrade Issa Abdulgafar A. (SAOTY), expressed deep appreciation to all stakeholders, senators, and comrades. He pledged to elevate the association through inclusive leadership and unwavering commitment.
The event concluded with a closing remark by Comrade Rachael, SUG President of the Kwara State College of Education, Oro, who captured the spirit of the occasion and inspired hope for the future.
The inauguration marks the beginning of a new chapter for NANS Kwara, with its new leadership team set to steer the association with renewed vision and dedication.
