President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that the nation is on a steady path to recovery despite criticisms, citing notable strides in security, fiscal discipline, and grassroots development.
In his first Presidential Media Chat, Tinubu highlighted improvements in security, asserting that previously dangerous routes are now safe for travel. “Two decades of wanton killings have been addressed. Today, you can travel the roads. Before now, it was impossible,” he said, while commending the military’s continued vigilance in safeguarding citizens.
On financial management, the President emphasized his administration’s efforts to eliminate reliance on the “ways and means” model. He noted, “We have more revenue being generated and distributed,” showcasing a move toward financial control and accountability.
Tinubu also spotlighted the autonomy granted to local governments, a development he described as a significant step toward grassroots empowerment. Reflecting on his tenure as Lagos State Governor, he linked this milestone to his consistent advocacy for decentralized governance.
Acknowledging existing challenges, Tinubu remained optimistic about the country’s future. “Regardless of critics, Nigeria is on the path of recovery. We can’t finish the job in one calendar year, and I am not giving myself an excuse—it’s only been 18 months,” he remarked.
The President’s statements, delivered during the landmark media engagement, are expected to spark nationwide discussions on the administration’s policies and long-term vision for Nigeria.
