The Federal Government has launched an ambitious eight-point plan to grow Nigeria’s creative economy, aiming to generate at least $100 billion and create over two million jobs annually.
Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, unveiled the plan at a roundtable for local and international investors in Lagos.
The initiative seeks to increase the sector’s contribution to the economy by 400% by 2027, up from its current $5 billion.
“The creative industry has immense potential, and we’re committed to unlocking it,” Musawa said.
The eight-point plan focuses on skills development, policy frameworks, governance, smart strategic partnerships, growth targets, enabling business environments, cultural heritage preservation, and sustainability.
Four key pillars will drive the sector’s growth:
– Technology
– Infrastructure and Funding
– International Culture Promotion
– Intellectual Property Monetisation
Fourteen pivotal initiatives have been identified to achieve the plan’s objectives, expected to boost government revenue by $10-20 billion.
With this initiative, Nigeria’s creative economy is poised to become the country’s second-largest employer, potentially producing 2.7 million jobs by 2025.
