The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has assured corps members that their monthly allowance will soon be increased to ₦77,000.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday during the commissioning of a staff bus donated by Capital Express Insurance Company, Ahmed revealed that arrangements for the increment have been finalized. He expressed his commitment to the welfare and security of corps members, adding that by 2025, they will enjoy all the benefits they deserve.
Ahmed’s remarks were highlighted in a report published by *Daily Trust*. Currently, NYSC members receive ₦33,000 monthly, despite President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the new national minimum wage bill into law in July 2024.
The newly commissioned staff bus, donated by Capital Express Insurance, is part of efforts to ease transportation challenges faced by NYSC staff. Ahmed acknowledged the difficulties corps members and staff encounter commuting to and from their offices, particularly amid economic challenges.
Matthew Ogwezhi, CEO of Capital Express Insurance, emphasized the long-standing relationship between the company and the NYSC. He explained that the bus donation is a reflection of their commitment to supporting the scheme, especially in light of rising fuel and transportation costs in Abuja.
The announcement has been well received by corps members, who have long awaited an upward adjustment in their monthly stipend to reflect the current economic realities.
