The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person following a violent clash between rival cult groups in the Oke Ola area of Osogbo on Sunday evening.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, stating that the police swiftly intervened to restore order in the area.
“It was the police team that responded to the scene and brought the situation under control,” Ojelabi said, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the violence.
“We are currently on the trail of the suspects, and they will be brought to justice,” he assured.
Ojelabi also called on residents to assist security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious activity or breach of the law.
According to reports, the violence erupted around 7:00 p.m. when suspected cult members participating in a masquerade procession encroached on the territory of a rival group, leading to a confrontation. An eyewitness said the incident escalated into a gunfight, during which one of the cult members was shot in the head and died instantly.
