The Osun State Government has strongly condemned calls for President Bola Tinubu to extend the state of emergency declared in Rivers State to Osun, describing it as baseless and politically motivated.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, accused the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, of spearheading the demand. Alimi dismissed the comparison between Osun and Rivers, stating that there is no justification for such a drastic measure.
He warned Basiru and the APC against disrupting the peace in Osun in a desperate bid to seize power. The commissioner recalled that Basiru had previously made similar statements on national television, reflecting what he described as the APC’s ongoing attempt to undermine Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
Alimi urged President Tinubu to disregard what he called a “wicked and baseless” request, describing Basiru as a “rejected and frustrated politician” trying to use backdoor tactics to destabilize the state. He further accused the APC of attempting to incite chaos, referencing their recent failed effort to enforce a non-existent Court of Appeal judgment to reinstate local government officials.
Despite these alleged provocations, Alimi praised Governor Adeleke’s leadership, emphasizing that his proactive approach prevented the state from descending into anarchy. He reaffirmed that Adeleke remains committed to maintaining peace and delivering good governance to the people of Osun.
