The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested multiple suspects linked to the vandalism of electricity infrastructure and theft of armoured cables in Bodinga Local Government Area.
The crackdown followed a report filed on May 14, 2025, by Aminu Haliru, a staff member of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, who alerted authorities to a series of coordinated cable thefts.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmad Rufai, the stolen cables were taken from six critical locations, including Tashan Gari, Tashan Gawo Kauran Mijo, Bodinya 3 Marina, Fatima Yahaya Hospital, Tulluwa, and the General Hospital in Bodinga.
Acting on the tip-off, police operatives arrested one Nuhu Yusuf from Sifawa, who confessed to the theft and revealed that he sold the cables through an associate identified as Bello Alhaji Abubakar, also known by the alias “ZAZU.”
Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Alhaji Danmaitasha, alleged to have purchased the stolen cables. A significant quantity of the missing armored cables was recovered during the operation.
In a separate but related incident, local vigilantes in Tukatuku village apprehended Mukthar Usman from Binjin Musa village, Yabo LGA. He was found with two bags of aluminium conductor wires suspected to be stolen.
All suspects are currently in custody, and police say they will be charged once investigations are complete.
Commending the swift action of the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, applauded the vigilance of community members and urged continued collaboration with law enforcement to curb infrastructure sabotage and theft.
