Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, has officially stepped down from his position, citing personal reasons related to his wife’s health. In a letter dated September 12th, Waldrum explained his decision to resign after a challenging few weeks.
Waldrum’s resignation comes at a crucial time for the Super Falcons and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which is still struggling to find a head coach for the male national team, the Super Eagles.
During his tenure, Waldrum led the Super Falcons to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and achieved a historic victory over co-hosts Australia. However, the team’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics was disappointing, with an early elimination in the group stage.
The NFF now faces the task of finding replacements for both the male and female national teams. Waldrum’s resignation adds to the challenges facing the NFF, but his decision to prioritize his family’s well-being is understandable.
