Samsung Electronics’ co-CEO, Han Jong-Hee, has passed away at 63 due to cardiac arrest, the company confirmed on Tuesday.
Han, who was born in 1962, played a key role in overseeing Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices businesses since 2022. He was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO the same year, working alongside Jun Young-Hyun, who leads the semiconductor division.
In an internal message, Samsung paid tribute to Han, recognizing his 37 years of service and his pivotal role in making Samsung a global leader in TV technology. He also steered the company’s electronics and appliances businesses through economic challenges, significantly contributing to its growth.
“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” Samsung stated.
So far, the company has not announced a successor.
Han’s final public appearance was at Samsung’s annual investor meeting last week, where he acknowledged the company’s stock struggles and warned of economic uncertainties in 2025. He had also reaffirmed Samsung’s commitment to pursuing mergers and acquisitions to strengthen its market position.
Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before leading the electronics and devices division, he was in charge of the company’s display operations.
