Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on residents to take ownership of public infrastructure and protect it from misuse and vandalism. Speaking on Thursday during the inauguration of five newly rehabilitated roads in Ikeja GRA, the governor emphasized the collective responsibility in maintaining these assets.
The commissioned roads—Oba Dosunmu Street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Sobo Arobiodun Street, and Sasegbon Street—span a total of 6.134 kilometers. Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that these improvements are designed to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and mitigate longstanding flooding issues in the area.
He urged residents to avoid actions that could damage the infrastructure, such as vandalism and improper waste disposal, stating, “These roads are not just the government’s; they belong to all of us. Let’s protect and care for them.”
The governor also assured that ongoing road projects across the state would be completed before the end of his tenure, reaffirming his commitment to delivering quality infrastructure. He commended the contractors, Messrs Slavabogu Nigeria Limited, for their professionalism and the quality of work delivered.
In attendance at the event were notable figures, including Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Iyaloja General of Nigeria Dr. Mujidat Folashade Ojo, Chairman of Air Peace Dr. Allen Onyema, and former Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose.
The governor’s call aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to involve citizens in the preservation of public assets, ensuring longevity and optimal use for the benefit of all Lagosians.
