Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the keenly contested 2024 governorship election.
Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 247,655 votes. The Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata came third with 22,763 votes.
In his victory speech, Okpebholo promised to develop Edo State, saying, “Edo people have elected the right person for the job. A new Edo is rising. I will transform Edo the way it should be.”
Okpebholo’s win was announced amidst concerns raised by Governor Obaseki, the PDP Campaign Council, PDP governors, and civil society organizations regarding irregularities during the collation process.
The Senator vowed to build on the legacy of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, ensuring Edo State’s continued growth and progress.
