Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central, has strongly refuted claims that he accepted a $10,000 bribe to support the State of Emergency declaration in Rivers State.
A report had alleged that 42 senators were paid to back the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, but Umeh dismissed the claims as false and baseless blackmail.
“I did not receive any money, nor was I part of any meeting where such payments were made,” Umeh said in a statement on Friday.
The senator clarified that he was at an Iftar gathering at the Senate Guest House, where he led Christian prayers and emphasized that no discussions about a state of emergency took place.
“We prayed for peace in Nigeria and reconciliation in Rivers State. There was no talk of emergency rule,” he stated.
Describing the allegations as a deliberate smear campaign, Umeh assured his constituents that he remains committed to honest and accountable leadership.
“I will not be distracted by false reports. My focus remains on serving my people with dignity and integrity,” he reaffirmed.
