The Sokoto State Government has introduced an e-ticketing system for its 126 mass transit vehicles used for inter-state, intra-city, and inter-local government transportation.
During a demonstration of the system at the Government House on Monday, Governor Ahmed Aliyu emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the state’s transport sector.
“This system promotes a cashless economy, ensures transport fares go directly into government coffers, and delivers value for the funds invested in the vehicles,” Aliyu stated. He added that the system would curb pilfering of public funds and allow for better supervision of vehicle operations and roadworthiness.
The governor assured full support for the program and urged the consulting firm to streamline the ticket acquisition process. He noted that once operational, the initiative would create job opportunities and boost state revenue.
Special Adviser on Mass Transit, Mode Shagari, and a representative of the consulting firm, Mr. Mahmud, commended the move as beneficial for passengers and the government. The initiative precedes the release of additional mass transit vehicles by the Ahmed Aliyu administration.
