The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Super Eagles will no longer participate in their scheduled Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya, which was set to take place on Tuesday.
The decision follows a harrowing experience at Al-Abraq Airport, where the team was stranded for over 13 hours. Despite prior clearance to land in Benghazi, Libyan authorities unexpectedly denied them entry, leaving the players and staff without access to basic necessities such as food, water, and communication.
After consulting with the team’s medical staff and players, the NFF decided to withdraw from the fixture, citing concerns for the players’ health and safety. Team captain William Troost-Ekong revealed that the decision was made collectively by the players and coaching staff.
This sudden development marks an abrupt end to what had already been a tense trip to Libya for the Super Eagles.
