A 17-year-old student in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district has died by suicide after being allegedly denied her admit card due to unpaid school fees of Rs 800.
The student, Riya Prajapati, was a Class 9 pupil at Kamala Sharan Yadav Inter College. According to her mother, Poonam Devi, Riya was humiliated by school officials, including the principal, manager, and other staff members when she arrived for her exam on Saturday. She was reportedly told to return home, leaving her devastated.
Unable to bear the shame, Riya went home and ended her life. Her family has accused the school staff of threatening to ruin her future, which they believe contributed to her tragic decision.
Police have launched an investigation and registered a case against those allegedly involved. The incident has sparked outrage, with many calling for justice and stricter regulations on how schools handle fee-related issues.
