Fear gripped Ondo State on Wednesday as suspected armed herders attacked a farming settlement in Aba Oyinbo, Akure North Local Government Area, killing five farmers. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the day, marks another wave of violence barely two weeks after over 20 farmers were massacred in a midnight raid on four communities in Ala Elefosan.
Outraged by the continuous killings, angry residents took to the streets, marching to the Governor’s Office in protest. They decried the government’s failure to curb the rising insecurity in the state. The demonstrators, in their numbers, barricaded major roads, disrupting traffic and leaving commuters stranded.
The unrest highlights growing tensions in the region, as communities demand urgent action to end the persistent attacks on farmers and rural dwellers.
