President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the Nigerian military and the families of six soldiers who lost their lives during a terrorist assault on an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State, on January 4, 2025.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu honored the ultimate sacrifice made by the fallen soldiers in defending the nation. He emphasized that their bravery will be eternally remembered.
Following this tragic event, the President has called for a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the attack, aiming to prevent future occurrences.
President Tinubu also commended the armed forces for their prompt and decisive counteraction, particularly the air component, which executed effective retaliatory strikes. These targeted air raids resulted in the significant neutralization of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to flee.
He stated, “This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security.” The President further urged the military to proactively take the fight to the camps of bandits and terrorists, especially in the Northwest, where these criminals continue to threaten the lives and homes of innocent villagers.
President Tinubu appealed to Nigerians and the media to support the military’s efforts to restore peace and security across the nation. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians.
