Renowned fashion designer Hope Georgewill, CEO of HMG Couture, has been murdered by sea pirates in Rivers State after being abducted on Wednesday. Georgewill, along with two others, was traveling from Elem Kalabari to Port Harcourt when their boat was intercepted by armed pirates on the New Calabar River in Degema Local Government Area.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N10 million, but despite negotiations, Georgewill was tragically killed on Friday. His death has left the fashion industry and his community in mourning, as he was celebrated for his creativity and impact in Port Harcourt’s fashion scene.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing insecurity along Nigeria’s waterways, where piracy remains a persistent threat. Friends, family, and colleagues have called for justice, urging authorities to take swift action against criminal activities on the state’s coastal routes.
Tributes have continued to pour in from the fashion world and beyond, as many remember Georgewill not only for his artistic brilliance but also for his dedication to his craft and community.
