A violent protest broke out in Zaranda Gari, Toro Local Government, Bauchi State, on Tuesday, following the alleged killing of two individuals by a security hunter (Dandanga). The victims were reportedly shot dead for transporting charcoal in commercial quantity, which is an offence according to state government regulations.
Angry youths responded to the incident by burning several houses belonging to the security man and blocking the federal road connecting Bauchi and Plateau states. The protest caused a significant disruption, with many travellers stranded in the town.
According to eyewitnesses, police were present at the scene but were outnumbered by the protesters. Vehicles were unable to pass due to the blocked road, causing a gridlock.
The protesters are demanding the presence of the state governor to address the situation. The incident has sparked tensions in the area, with many calling for justice and accountability for the alleged killings.
