Vice President Kashim Shettima has embarked on a significant diplomatic mission to the United States to attend the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This trip, undertaken at the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscores Nigeria’s commitment to engaging in global discussions on peace, sustainable development, and human dignity.
Departing from Abuja on Sunday, Vice President Shettima is set to lead the Nigerian delegation at the high-level global forum in New York. During the session, he will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in key meetings, and engage in bilateral discussions with other world leaders.
The General Debate, themed “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations,” will take place from September 24 to 28, 2024. This theme highlights the global community’s collective efforts to address pressing issues and ensure inclusive progress.
President Tinubu has tasked Vice President Shettima with this responsibility while he focuses on addressing critical domestic challenges, including the recent devastating flood disaster in Nigeria.
