Commissions New Mosque in Ogbomoso, Advocates for Selfless Leadership
Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerian leaders to focus on community service and legacy-building over personal interests. Speaking on Friday at the inauguration of the Ibapon Central Mosque in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Shettima expressed concern about a growing culture of individualism, urging Nigerians to emphasize spiritual and community commitments.
“The world increasingly values self-interest over selflessness,” he said. “Yet, our lives are brief, and true fulfillment lies in the legacies we leave behind.”
The multi-million-naira mosque, funded by Senator Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari of Oyo North Senatorial District, was praised by Shettima as an example of *Sadaqah Jariyah*, or continuous charity, symbolizing enduring impact and devotion. The Vice President encouraged leaders and the wealthy to consider what remains when “the race ends,” emphasizing that selfless deeds and faith endure beyond material wealth.
Oyo State Deputy Governor Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, representing the state government, celebrated the mosque as a project fostering national unity, peace, and spiritual growth. Senator Buhari expressed his gratitude for the project’s success, calling it a personal dream fulfilled.
The event also included remarks from the Aare Musulumi of Ogbomosoland and a ceremony to appoint two Imams for the mosque. Among the dignitaries were Kwara State Governor Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Soun of Ogbomoso Land Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, and other officials and traditional rulers.
