Kwara State has officially commenced its close camp for athletes preparing for the National Sports Festival, Gateway 2024, with the Executive Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji, charging coaches to deploy the right training strategies to sharpen the athletes for peak performance.
Addressing the athletes at the camp, which opened yesterday evening, Mogaji emphasized the importance of precision in training at this critical stage. “Any athlete hoping to peak at the festival must have begun preparation months ago. What is needed now is smart, impactful training from our coaches,” he said.
He also urged athletes to maintain discipline and adhere strictly to camp rules, reminding them of the seriousness of the task ahead.
In a bid to boost morale, Mogaji disclosed that open camp allowances would be disbursed to athletes by this morning, while close camp allowances would be settled before the contingent departs for the festival. “As a former athlete, I understand the value of motivation and welfare. That’s why it’s my priority,” he added.
He further announced that athletes would retain their march-past outfits, canvas, and jerseys issued for the festival.
Earlier, the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Bako, advised athletes to conduct themselves responsibly and report any challenges through proper channels.
A sport-by-sport roll call was taken as the close camp got underway, signaling Kwara’s final phase of preparation for the national competition.
